January 10 - Day Trip to San Antonio to leave the Waggin' Wagon February 21 - Overnight Trip to San Antonio to pick up the Waggin' Wagon
It might be a stretch to call this trip an "RV" trip since we actually didn't camp in the Wagon. However, we did spend the night at a new hotel on the Riverwalk in San Antonio called the Hyatt Place. We enjoyed a traditional Tex Mex meal at “The Original” on the Riverwalk and did some exploring before picking up the Waggin' Wagon for the drive home to Buffalo Gap. Here are some fun Wikipedia facts about San Antonio:
San Antonio is the second-largest city in the state of Texas, and the seventh largest city in the US. Located in South Texas, the city is a cultural and geographical gateway into the American Southwest. San Antonio, the city, has a population of about 1.3 million, and its metro area tops out at approximately 2 million. San Antonio was named for the Portuguese St. Anthony, whose feast day is on June 13, when a Spanish expedition stopped in the area in 1691. Famous for its River Walk, the Alamo, Tejano culture, the city is visited by 26 million tourists per year.
Before picking up the Wagon on February 22, we went for breakfast at the Guenther House Restaurant, quite a historical spot and also on the river. Pioneer Flour Mills was founded by Carl Hilmar Guenther, a German who immigrated to the U.S. in 1848. He built his first mill in Fredericksburg, but with a need for dependable water, moved the mill to San Antonio in 1859. Next door to the mill, he built a stone house for his family, which is now home to the restaurant and kitchen store. Today, the Guenther family continues the tradition of milling the finest flours possible with the brands of Pioneer, White Wings, Peter Pan, Morrison's and San Antonio River MIll. Any trip to San Antonio should include a visit to the Guenther House for a sweet cream waffle or pancake-- yum! Check it out....
