Every four years, the Texas Society of Washington, DC sponsors the Black Tie & Boots Inaugural Ball. 2009's soiree was held on January 19, 2009 at the newly-completed Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center on Waterfront Street in the National Harbor on the eastern shore of the Potomac River. There were over 10,000 people attending the ball, which featured 20 different musical performances in seven ballrooms at the expansive Gaylord.
Ruth Ann (Lota's sister), Tom (Ruth Ann's husband), Cary and Lota traveled to Washington DC late on January 17, enjoyed visiting with our host (innkeeper and chef) Lori Weiman on Sunday before attending the ball on Monday evening. Lori joined us for the affair, and we have photographs below commemorating the terrifc weekend. We all believe that it made the already historic inauguration of President Obama even more memorable for us. While we Texans tend to lean toward the conservative side politically, these four Texans are energized by this young president and the promise of a better America. After all, we are Americans first and foremost!
Enjoy the photographs!

We are blessed with the friendship of Lori Weiman, who always has a "room" at the Weiman Inn - North or South. Here are a few photographs of our stay with Lori -- not surprising that they all revolve around cooking and the wonderful food that results from that activity!
